Let's Talk About Ad Fraud

Ad fraud in 2018 is largely synonymous with ‘click fraud’ - when pay-per-click ads are clicked by robots instead of humans or competitors instead of customers.
Click fraud is the first big test a new advertising platform faces as it strives to legitimacy. Google Ads, then Adwords, dealt with it for many years before it became the leader in the space. Facebook’s ad network was fraught with fraud until late 2016, when it finally became a significant player in the online advertising space. Twitter and LinkedIn still struggle with it, leaving a very difficult challenge for advertisers to achieve positive ROI’s for campaigns on their respective networks.
However, this week we were introduced to two new twists on ad fraud. The first was highly technical. The second was more akin to gross negligence than a sophisticated hacking scheme.

Craig sets it up better than I could. Take it away, Craig.
